An update upon request:
School is overwhelming. Socially, not much has changed. Uhh, I still play drums? D:
School is stressing me out. I barely even want to do what I originally intended, but I'm already on my 4th (out of 5) year. Some guest speaker was in one of my classes the other day talking about IT and how they hire CS majors for that. I'm thinking of that.
Uhh what else...summer was pretty chill. I turned 21 at the end (you know, like I always do) and went to Vegas on Labor Day weekend with the brother + assorted friends. Fun stuff.
*boring*
Bye. D:
Also hi Virley!

1: Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, find line 4. Write down what it says: "gram would probably display the byte as "41," which is the number's hexadecimal representation. If"
2: Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What do you touch first? The side of my dresser.
3: What is the last thing you watched on TV? ...good question.
4: WITHOUT LOOKING, guess what time it is: 4:13
5: Now look at the clock, what is the actual time? WHAT THE HELL. 4:13. *spaz*
6: With the exception of the computer, what can you hear? Silence.
7: When did you last step outside? A while ago when I went to pick up my brother and get the mail.
8: Before you came to this website, what did you look at? I was on fark.com.
9: What are you wearing? Black sweats, a white undershirt, and a grey hoodie.
10: Did you dream last night? Yes.
11: When did you last laugh? In the garage as I was walking in and talking to my brother.
12: What is on the walls of the room you are in? Paint, a whiteboard, and some badminton rackets.
13: Seen anything weird lately? There was somebody that was really bad at parallel parking earlier.
14: What do you think of this quiz? It's okay.
15: What is the last film you saw? The Dark Knight.
16: If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy first? Whoa. I think a new house, first. Then I can fill it with crap, otherwise I don't have enough space.
17: Tell me something about you that I don't know: I have glasses now.
18: If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do? Hmm...I'd probably ditch the electoral college system in the US, since I can't think of anything better. :P
19: Do you like to dance? Eh, maybe.
20: George Bush: is he a power-crazy nut case or some one who is finally doing something that has needed to be done for years? Neither. He's just not very smart.
21: Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her? I don't know yet.
22: Imagine your first child is a boy, what do you call him? I don't know yet.
23: Would you ever consider living abroad? It's always possible, but I may die.
24: Will you pass on this survey? I'm just posting it on LJ.

[16 Jun 2008|08:20pm] |
I had to go to the courthouse today for jury duty at 8 AM. x_x
Luckily I just sat there, ate food, drank a smoothie, and watched 1.5 movies. They never called me then let my group go. :P Woohoo.

Cicada - Cut Right Through |

Woohoo, three finals done, one to go. I'm feeling semi-good about this semester, haha.
On Monday I took my physics (E&M) final. I'm not feeling too great about that one. Without the final, my grade in that class is probably around a low B. The final is worth 24% of my grade, so chances are I passed, even if I think I bombed the final. It'll probably get curved to hell if everybody else does badly, so I'll hope. Even if I did, a 50% on the final means i get a 72% (assuming I currently stand at 80%). So as long as I pass, woohoo.
Discrete structures I was actually fairly confident about. The final was 12 questions. There was one problem that I didn't know how to do, which was worth 5/65 points, and half of another problem I didn't know how to do, which is probably another 5 points. But besides that, I knew everything else. However, I don't know if he curves grades in the end, so my actual grade at this point is unknown.
Macroeconomics was a joke. Prior to the final, I had a 99% in the class. I just came in and winged it. I also gave away a pencil to some guy since I didn't want to be mean or lie.
Microeconomics is tomorrow. I currently stand at around 95%, and the final is worth (40/3)% (haha improper fraction) of my total grade, meaning I have to get higher than roughly a 63%, which is almost definitely happening, considering I'm allowed a notecard on the final and it isn't cumulative.
So things are looking fairly bright for me.
In other news, drums have been good for me in general. I actually feel myself improving and not stuck in a rut, which is a good sign. Right now, I'm learning how to play Beast and the Harlot by Avenged Sevenfold, which is my aspiration right now. Needless to say, it's fairly insane. I'm also itching to purchase a double-bass pedal soon especially since I'm selling my textbooks back tomorrow.
I think I'll do it. I can learn how to play double-bass this summer.

Well, I've been in a "band" for a while. A rock band. Of the non-video-game sort. But anyways, I put band in quotes because we're like a semi-functional band. I haven't met the bassist and I don't know the singer at all (in fact, I've seen him once and have no clue who he is or what he looks like). But I know the two guitarists, they're my buddies from fall 06. :P
Anyways, we had our first official practice on thursday accompanied with a bbq. Seeing as how they live in folsom and I don't, I have to move my drums there. That was quite a feat with just a Honda Accord, considering the size of the drums. So here's my ingenuity at work.

[13 Mar 2008|07:43pm] |
me: hi, what's the status on my order #___________ for the tama imperialstar. them: did you not get the right tracking order? me: err, no. it came in two boxes. the first box was fine, but the second box was incorrect, so i sent it back for an exchange a month and a half ago. it's been on backorder since and i saw that it's in stock now so i wanted to see what's happening with it. them: ...please hold. *hold* them: whoever handled the exchange did it incorrectly. you were supposed to return both boxes me: (wtf) uhh, that's not possible, it's already been unpacked since it's the correct box. them: so it's already used? me: yes, it's been partially used. them: ...please hold. *hold* them: my coworker said you have to return both boxes. me: (wtf i already said this) I _can't_ return the other box, the box is gone, i don't have the packing material, whoever handled my exchange a month and a half ago said to only return the second incorrect box them: ...please hold...again. *hold* them: sorry for whoever handling your exchange for doing it incorrectly, i sent an email to the warehouse to look for your returned box and to get your drums sent out as soon as possible. check back in a week. me: k...o_obye.
^That took 26 minutes.

Francis Nguyen, is registered for the WPE on Mar 08, 2008. Reporting time is 12:00PM. Room: Alpine Hall 138
I get to take the writing proficiency exam at sac state tomorrow. Woohoo for 2-3 hours of writing.
In other news, earlier out of boredom (because my yellow pad on my Rock Band drum set broke) I started using the higher frets on the guitar to play solos. It's like DDR for fingers, it was fun. I can get around 90% of the solo on Enter Sandman with just fret tapping.
This isn't me, but so you get the idea:
Go to 2:45.

I think I've said this before, but I mostly use LJ to whine, bitch, and rant.
Anyways, I fucking hate living in Elk Grove. There is absolute shit to do around here, unless you like going out to eat a lot or enjoy overpriced movies (which applies to everywhere). I have about one friend, Cindy, that I keep in contact with here and hang out with, except she's always busy or whatever and manages to always have a reason to not hang out. The only other people I regularly hang out with, even if we're doing nothing at all, are in Natomas, which is a good half hour away or more, however traffic dictates. However, driving that far is such a toll on my gas, so I usually only hang out with them outside of school like once a week. Then I asked them to go to my house and they're kinda iffy on it saying it's so far away (well, just Chantel and Micky while Jessica and Brady were off in their own conversation) when I drive up to Natomas an assload of times. And they carpool. >_>
And now I'm at home, with absolutely nothing to do. I texted Cindy and she hasn't responded. And I'm about to bash my head in from boredom. This feels like a depressing Friday.
Edit: Oh, and continuing my rant, I STILL DON'T HAVE MY FUCKING DRUMS MENTIONED FROM FOUR ENTRIES BACK. Godammit. Backorder until March 21st, blow me.

arghklfjdklajfdas CSC 35 got cancelled because of only 5 registered students, which royally fucks me over for this and next semester.
Meh, so I got a hold from the financial aid department because I was then only enrolled for 10 units (I wanted an easier semester due to CSC 35 and Phys 11c), so I was going to add govt 150 (American Governments). I found a good section and everything with a really good professor, but it required instructor approval, meaning I couldn't add it right then. There was only one slot left, so yeah, I'm not taking that class. Instead I added econ 1a, which means I'm taking micro and macro in one semester.
I was also going to take macroeconomics with a friend next semester. Great.

I felt like I wasted a day today.
I got up at 6:30, had a class at 8. It was the first day of intro to computer architecture (CSc 35), a class where we learn assembly language. Our professor was such a bore, though. We didn't learn anything. He just went over the course outline and kept us in there for the entire duration talking about how if the class is easy, we should drop it? Because we don't need to take it if we already know it, never mind the fact that it's a course requirement to get a BS in CS. I dunno, I thought that was a really asinine thing to say. Not to mention that he says that if we read our book on its own, we won't understand a thing.
...and this guy is my CS advisor.
Anyways, continuing my wasted day, he held us in the entire time while not teaching us anything. I didn't go to my lab after that, since it's the first week (9:00 - 10:40).
Then came my break until 1, my physics lab...which lasted for a good 10 minutes.

| A timeline |
[28 Jan 2008|10:16pm] |
9/19, 9:00 PM - I order a Tama Imperialstar drum set, some accessories, and a new amplifier for my brother's guitar.
9/21, 4:50 AM - The order is shipped in what appears to be 3 packages according to my account information on their website. I get a single tracking number for the package containing my brother's amp.
9/24, 12:24 PM - Amp and drum accessories arrive. I headdesk.
9/24, 1 PM - I send them an email asking for shipping confirmation of all my stuff and ask for all tracking numbers.
9/25, 10 AM - Nuts to that, I call them. I get desired info. Turns out there was a total of four packages. The plot thickens. Both of the non-delivered parcels are reported by UPS to be the same weight (70.5) and I think they sent me two drumsets. O_o 70.5 pound package #1 is due to arrive later today. Package #2 is due to arrive on Monday.
9/25, 4:11 PM - I get my drums. Well, half of them. I have an epiphany. The other package is the other half.
9/28, 12:24 PM - Package #2 arrives. They sent me the same package again, box A, instead of box B. I headdesk again.
9/28, 12:54 PM - I call musician's friend to request an RMA so I can exchange it. It ends up taking almost 16 minutes. I almost headdesk from being on hold.
9/28, 3:00 PM - I ship a 62.85 pound parcel back to Minnesota.
9/28, 10:16 PM - I go on LJ and whineeeeeeeeeeeeee. >_> I WANT MY DRUMS DAMMIT.

I haven't updated in a while.
Well, winter break has been okay. I still haven't gone snowboarding yet, to my dismay. I think I'm probably going to go next week. Or I hope so. But besides that, I've had a much less boring winter break than previous years. I went to a party last Friday with Spring, Dom, Hannah, and Brenda in Antelope. I went out to eat multiple times, which is rare since I'm usually cheap. Drove all the way to Berkeley just to visit Spring yesterday and learned that wine tastes nasty. I met Janet, and she, along with Spring and I, went to the club. We ended up going to Loft 11 for some God-forsaken reason and it was lame. But it was okay, because I had hella rum. I remember a bum tried to hustle us with a parking spot on the fire lane and that I needed to pee hella bad. Then we went to Safeway, bought some food, made spam & kimchi fried rice, and watched Naruto. Then slept.
Fun fun.
